Homework Policy

It is very important that learning is not taking place just at school, but at home too.  By helping your child with their nightly homework assignments they will be practicing the skills needed for 1st grade.  This also allows you to see how they are performing.

Nightly Homework Routine

Reading Routine-Reading is the most important skill you can practice with your child.  Each night students will bring home their TRIP binder.  Enclosed in the binder you will find a small book that is just right for your child's reading level.  This book will be replaced twice a week.  Students should read the book to someone.  This is not a good time to have them read silently - instead have them read aloud to you - they will love it!

After reading together, talk about the book with your child.  Ask them questions, have them ask you questions, see how much they understood.

He/she should read every night for at least 15 minutes.  This may mean they need to read a few books to you, not just one.

Remember, the more your child practices reading - the better they will get!

Math-Inside the TRIP binder you will find your child's Conduct Calendar.  If your child had Math homework it will be noted on the calendar.  Just look in the Notes section for the specific page.  See the example Conduct Calendar below:
