My Favorite Author

Authors are people just like you and I!  Ever wonder what it would be like to meet your favorite author?  By using the Internet we can discover some interesting facts about some of the best authors!

Your job this week is to find the answers to these questions:

 

-How can I use the Internet to help me find information about my favorite author? 

-What search tips can I use to narrow down the information I find?

-How can I use Kidspiration to organize my thoughts and create an Author Web?

Let's get started!

Step 1: Finding an Author
First, we will need to choose an author. 

Type in the name of your favorite book on the following site.  This will help you find your author's name.

Search Kids Read.com

 

Now you should know the name of your author.  Let's use the site Kids Read.com to locate some information on your author.  You will need to find five important pieces of information about your author!

Step 2: Creating your Author Web
Now that you have your information you're ready to start designing your own Author's Web. 

 

You can design your web any way you'd like!  Just keep in mind these important tips:

1. Choose colors that are easy to view.

2. Make your text size big enough to see from far way.

3. Set up your web so it looks neat and organized.

Use this template to get you started on your web.

P.S.- When you're finished with your web use the helping charts on side of your computer to help you save your work.  Save your work as Author Web.

 
Step 3: Adding a Picture to your Web
You're almost finished with your amazing author web!  Just one final step to make it even more amazing!  You are now ready to  add a picture of your author.

1. First open your web on Kidspiration and minimize it.

 

2. Next, you will need to

copy and past a picture of your author.

3. Now it's time to copy and paste your picture into your web.

Place your mouse on top of your picture.  Right click on your picture. 

 

 

You will see a menu pop up like this:

click on copy

 

4. Now open up Kidspiration, it's just hiding at the bottom of your screen!

5. Click down where you want your picture to go

and go to edit, paste.

Presto! 

Your picture has been inserted!

 
Step 4: Site your Source of Information
When you use a picture that someone else has taken you must site your source. 

It's easy, just copy and pate the name of the site where you found your picture.  Here's an example:

 

 

Then go back to Kidspiration and paste it at the bottom of your web.  Just like you did with the picture of your author!

 
Step 5: Proofread and Print your work
You're almost through!  All you need to do is proofread your work.  Make sure it looks just the way you'd like! 

Then follow the steps on your helping chart to help you print to the color printer. 

 

Congratulations your web is complete!  Great job!
